Today in the Mommy Blogging 101 Series, we’re talking blog business cards. Do you have business cards for your blog already? Have you been thinking about ordering cards? Today I’m sharing my business cards and how you know when it’s time to take the plunge and order your own! We’re also talking about what you should and shouldn’t include on your blog business cards.
Krista is the lovely designer behind think moxiee. I explained to her that I wanted something super simple that could work for both blogs that I write – so I didn’t have to really worry about having a stack of business cards for each every time I went somewhere.
I had also requested that she design a card for me that would have a couple of photos on it – I had dreamed of a headshot of myself and a silhouette of my girls. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my photoshoot done before I needed my cards, so we axed that idea and I let Krista run with a design she thought would be good for me.
The bottom card, blue and red which are the Blogging Mamas signature colors, was the card she designed. I totally loved it. It gives all my information, for both of my blogs, in a concise form that still feels crisp and clean to me. I was just a little sad that my 2nd blog wasn’t as represented with the colors so she made the same design, but with the other blog colors! It was easy to order 2 different card layouts when I ordered from moo.com so it really was the perfect way to represent both blogs, but still have the same information.
I couldn’t be happier with the cards that Krista created for me. She took my scattered ideas and put them together in a simple design that is me – which is the sign of a fabulous designer. Business Cards aren’t all that Krista designs either. Check out thinkmoxiee.com if you’re looking for any type of design work, whether it be print or web design. I had such a great experience that I’ve hired her to give my 2nd blog an update later this year – I can’t wait to see what she does with that!
Krista is currently on Maternity Leave [as she’s expecting twins any time now] and plans to return to design work in November, so if you’d like a spot on her calendar, be sure to contact her soon. You can connect with her on social media on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter as well!
Now let’s get back to those blog business cards, shall we?!
Is your blog ready for business cards?
If you’ve even thought about this for more than a minute – it probably is! I waited a long time before I had business cards made because I mainly made blog contacts online. I haven’t been to any blogging conferences and just recently went on my first 2 press trips, which is where I felt business cards would really benefit me.
If you’re looking to make contacts in person, business cards are a must.
What should you include on your blog business cards?
This is where your personality and blog look should shine. You won’t have room for everything or your card will get super cluttered. If you do want to include more information you can always opt for a double-sided business card. Some ideas to include are:
- Your Photograph – Lots of bloggers are branding themselves more and more. Although you might feel a bit shy, a photo of yourself would definitely keep you in a potential sponsor’s mind and make your card really stand out.
- Blog Image/Logo
- Full Name
- Email Address
- Address or Phone Number [if you prefer contact through those ways.]
- Blog Name and URL
- Social Media Profiles – I wouldn’t list every single social profile you have, but the medias where you’re most active.
- QR Code – You can generate a unique QR code for your blog here. It might even be a great idea for the QR code to lead to your blog’s Media Kit or About Me.
Get Creative with Style and Size
There are SO many different styles and sizes available to purchase now. I stuck with a standard size business card, but printed on recycled paper. You can get cards with rounded corners, cards that are half size, and even circles. If you want to stand out, choosing a unique style can help you do just that!
Where do I order blog business cards?
There are a few different places online that you can order business cards. I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for – so it doesn’t all pay to be cheap! think moxiee designs for moo.com so that’s where I went and I couldn’t have been happier with their services. Here are a couple of other online business card options:
